Lekki Toll reopen: LASG seeks ‘understanding’, Lagosians kick

Nigerians have asked the Lagos State government to halt the April 1 planned reopening of tolling of the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge by the Lekki Concession Company Limited, LCC.

This followed the appeal by the Lagos government, urging Nigerians, residents, and stakeholders around Lekki and Ikoyi to show understanding.

The appeal was made by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotosho, and his Transportation counterparts, Dr. Fredericks Oladeinde as well as Home Affairs, Prince Anofi Elegushi.

They made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday at the Lekki Coliseum in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

However, the residents said they want the reopening halted based on the harsh economic situation in the country.

They said the tolling would aggravate their hardship.

Some Nigerians also took to social media to demand justice for people killed and injured at Lekki Toll Gate during the #EndSars protest.

#NoJusticeNoToll is trending as of the time of filing this report.

Below are some of the comments on Twitter on Friday morning:

If there is no Justice, There should be no toll. Keep it Free and honour the Soul of the #EndSARS protest fallen hero's. #NoJusticeNoToll pic.twitter.com/LrlrefKFXS

My argument against reopening the Lekki toll gate is that while it'll bring money to the gov., it will bring monumental loss to businesses. Tolling will lead to increase in traffic congestions. Traffic congestions leads to timeloss and ultimately money loss #NoJusticeNoToll.
