 Lagos businessman docked for allegedly stealing N11m cars

Officers from State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos have arraigned a 41-year old businessman, Tochukwu Anoliefo, before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly selling eight vehicles belonging to a complainant, Mrs Chuka Ezeokodi, for N11,000,000 and converted the money to his use.

Police alleged that the defendant was ordered arrested by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP in charge of SCID, Lagos, DCP Fayoade Adegoke following a petition by the complainant.

The defendant was charged before the Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining property by false pretense and stealing.

Police Counsel, Georfrey Oriabure told the Court in the charge sheet marked F/25/2021 that the defendant committed the offence on 6 April, 2021 at 32B, Aju Dada Street, Isheri, Lagos.

Oriabure informed the Court that the complainant, Mrs Ezeokodi reported that she entrusted eight cars namely Toyota Matrix 2003 Model, Toyota Sienna 2006 model, Toyota Camry 2010 model, pontrial Vibe, Toyota Sienna 2005 model and three Camry Cars in the care of the defendant to help her sell and remit the proceeds into her account, but that she was shocked that the defendant sold the vehicles valued at N11,000,000 and converted the proceeds to his use and escaped.

Oriabure noted that the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under sessions 411, 314(1)(2) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate, O. Salau granted him N500,000 bail with two surties in like sum.

Salau adjourned the case till 5 April, 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till he perfected the bail conditions.
