Shehu Sani describes bill seeking NSCDC scrap as retrogressive

Former Senator, Shehu Sani, has described as retrogressive, a bill proposing the proscription of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the House of Representatives.
It was reported that the bill, which passed the first reading in the House of Representatives, was read during Tuesday plenary.
It was gathered that Shina Peller, who sponsored the bill, said the proposed legislation seeks to repeal the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (Amendment) Act 2007.
In his reacting, Sani said such move was unnecessary and retrogressive and should be discarded.
The former lawmaker tweeted: “The Bill in the House of Reps proposing the scraping of NSCDC is unnecessary and retrogressive.
”The Civil Defence as a prime security agency have been playing a distinctive and complementary role in our security system.With due respect,that Bill should be rejected.”
