Nyako grants Nnamdi Kanu abridgement of time

Nyako grants Nnamdi Kanu abridgement of time

Kanu, Nyako

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High court in Abuja has adjourned the case of separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu to January 18, 2022.

Nyako moved the trial after Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers approached the court today to demand for abridgement of time for accelerated trial.

The lawyers noted that the trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu earlier slated for January 19, 2022 amounts to delay tactics.

The trial judge however explained that she has a busy schedule.

Nyako insisted that there was no room for abridgement but later moved the case forward by one day after continuous persuasion from Kanu lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor.

However, contrary to multiple reports, the application for bail was not raised during today’s court session.

Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer only demanded for abridgement of time and the protection of separatist leaders’ rights.

The lawyers argued that Nnamdi Kanu was denied materials he needed for prayers as a Jew.

They added that the IPOB leader was also denied access to sunlights and court materials he needed to read.

Nyako, however, ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to adhere to the rule of law and ensure that Nnamdi Kanu’s fundamental rights are not violated.
