Gunmen snatch four in Ekiti community

Gunmen numbering eight on Wednesday invaded Ilasa-Ekiti in Ekiti -East Local Government Area of Ekiti State and kidnapped four persons.

The Nation gathered that the assailants stormed Eti-Ero farmstead in the town around 1:30am, shot sporadically and ransacked the entire households.

According to multiple sources, a child, believed to be a Yoruba person and three Ebira farmers, were kidnapped and taken to unknown destination.

The source said: “The gunmen came around 1.30am and started shooting sporadically. The gunshots generated a lot of panic and some brave people among them had to rush out of their buildings and fled into the bush.

“As they were shooting , they were searching all the buildings and in the course of doing the searching, they got to the home of a child confirmed to be less than 10 years and three others who were farmers.

“They have been taken to unknown destination and no one has been contacted as of now,” he stated.

When contacted, Ekiti police spokesman ASP Sunday Abutu however said two persons were abducted, not four.

“Even the police have rescued one of the captives from the abductors and one person had been arrested in connection with the midnight raid.

“Our men are searching the bushes for the only person in their custody . We assure the people of Ekiti State that we will get him rescued and the culprits will be arrested to face justice,” Abutu said.

Meanwhile, the Ilasa Development Union has condemned the incessant cases of kidnapping within and around Ilasa Ekiti.

The Union in a statement on Wednesday by its president, Tajudeen Ahmed, also frowned at the alleged lip service being accorded security matters at Ilasa Ekiti and around its borders by government authorities.

He said”“We call on Government of Ekiti State to expedite actions towards the release of the kidnapped victims and towards curbing the menace of kidnapping in Ekiti State as a whole.

“We assure all sons and daughters of Ilasa Ekiti that IDU in concert with the palace authority, will leave no stone unturned in making Ilasa Ekiti a safe haven.” THE NATION
