US President-elect Joe Biden, on Saturday, says incumbent President Donald Trump is not above the law.

“Our president is not above the law. Justice serves the people — it doesn’t protect the powerful,” the Democrat challenger, who takes office on January 20, tweeted.

Biden’s comment comes hours after the ban of the Republican incumbent by big Silicon Valley companies including Twitter and Facebook.

After a “close review” of tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account, “we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” Twitter said on Friday.

The US Justice Department also announced on Friday that it has charged 15 people involved in the assault on Congress, including one man accused of possessing bombs made to act like “homemade napalm”.

The department unveiled the cases against 13 people, including Richard Barnett, a Trump supporter who invaded the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Lonnie Coffman of Alabama, who was found carrying two handguns and had 11 Styrofoam-enhanced Molotov cocktails in his truck.

The outgoing US president has been heavily criticised for inciting his followers to attack the Capitol during Congress deliberations to certify the November 3 victory of President-elect Joe Biden.

Political leaders across all continents have condemned Trump’s action, with many accusing him of dragging one of the world’s most respected and resilient democracy in the mud.
