 Police discloses how gunmen killed LP Campaign Director, Zachery

Abia police, on Wednesday, confirmed the beheading of a 70-year-old man, Maduka Zachery, by unknown gunmen.

Zachery was the 2023 Campaign Director of the Labour Party in Abia before he was assassinated.

It was revealed that the assassins numbering about 10, were said to have been wielding pump action guns, cutlasses and several other weapons.

Zachery, who was the head of the Uturu Community security outfit, was shot dead at a drinking spot in Amelechi Akpukpa within the community before he was beheaded.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, confirmed the incident in a statement.

She pointed out that Investigations are currently on going to unravel those behind the killing.

The statement read, “Mr. Nmaduka was violently attacked, shot and beheaded by unidentified assailants, while he was at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa Community.

“Upon receiving this distressing information, a joint team comprising police and army personnel were swiftly dispatched to the scene.

“Tragically, they recovered Mr. Nmaduka’s lifeless body. Photographic evidence was captured at the scene, and the deceased’s remains was promptly evacuated and deposited at Marist Mortuary Uturu”.
