Philanthropist says 'Mutual distrust aids insecurity’

Philanthropist says 'Mutual distrust aids insecurity’

A philanthropist, Alhaji Sheriff Shagaya, has urged Nigerians to intensify prayers to salvage the country from the security and economic woes.

Shagaya, who is also the Chairman Salman Shagaya Foundation (SSF), called on the country’s leaders to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of the masses for peace to reign.

Shagaya said this in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, during an Iftar with members of his foundation, artisans, students, and women from the Kwara central senatorial district.

He said: “I feel that beneath the security and economy woes bedevilling the country lies a critical factor of mutual distrust and disbelief between the led and the leaders. We must take a pause and reflect on the deepening disconnection. As leaders, we must fortify the frontiers of leadership with principles of love and selflessness in our communities before these hostilities degenerate.

“When we do all we do for the people and they send prayers, it touches me. I can also pick their passionate appeal for people like me to seek office. Well, I agree that we need good people in public offices. But we all can’t occupy them…” THE NATION
